BABIES KILLED IN AFGHAN AS GUNMEN STORMED MATERNITY WARD

Two babies and 11 mothers and nurses have been killed in an attack in an attack on a hospital in  afghan capital 

Another 15 people, including a number of children where injured as gunmen stormed the Kebul hospital on Tuesday morning, 

After an hours-long of shootouts between the police and the unknown gunmen resulting to the death of 14 people including two newborn babies, and their mothers and an unknown number of nurses.

Security forces had earlier cordoned off the area as they evacuated more than 80 women and babies from the hospital  where medical charity doctors without borders runs a maternity clinic.

In Kabul locals heard two blasts, then gunfire. one doctor who fled during the assault, which began at 10:00 local time (05:30 Gmt) reported that about 140 people were in the hospital when the gunmen attacked.

it was also reported that some of the attackers who gained access dressed as police officers, were all killed by security personnel during the shootouts that lasted for hours.


An image from the attack scene showed  soldiers carrying one of the infant baby to safety, in a blood stained blanket it is clear if the infant had been injured  or not.

The interior ministry spokesman said Tareq Arian, said 15 others, including women, men and children were wounded in the scene

Amid the safely evacuated were three foreigners he said, without elaborating.
It was unclear why the maternity hospital in Dashti Barchi a 100 bed facility, was a target.?
Arian this was an "act against humanity and a war crime".
